personalised beach bucket
Yesterday at Tuesday featured these adorable personalised beach buckets, complete with tutorial. What a wonderful party favour or “goodie bag” for a beach party. To make them you will need to use masking tape to mark off a rectangle on the bucket. Apply chalkboard paint in the rectangle area - you may need to do about 4 layers (letting each layer dry before applying another one) to get a consistent chalkboard colour. Add a design and name onto the chalkboard area using Deco Color markers. Then carefully remove the masking tape to reveal your masterpiece!
pirate treasure party favour
Its amazing what a cellophane bag and curling ribbon can transform. I bought chocolate coins and gummi fish to put into these ‘pirate treasure’ bags. I tied them up with curling ribbon and added the starfish tags to keep with the theme.
mermaid goodie bags
You can buy paper goodie bags in lots of colours from most craft stores. For my daughter’s mermaid party I chose this blue to complement the theme of pink and blue.
To make the bag a little more interesting I cut a starfish and made a window in the front of the bag. There’s a few useful tips in doing this:
- Keep the bags flat (folded) for the cutting
- Find a piece of thick card that you can insert into the flattened bag to use as a cutting board
- Print a template of the starfish and using a glue stick, glue the template in place on the bag (be sure to only glue inside the starfish as this will be the piece you end up throwing away) - this saves drawing lines on your bag
- Using a stanley knife trace over the lines of your template to cut out the shape on the bag
It is actually very easy. Once I’d done the cutting I glued in a square of overhead transparency with glue stick to create the window. I also added the curled ribbon and starfish thank you tags to finish them off.
starfish labels
We’ve had a few requests for our starfish labels, so here is a template for you. We recommend printing on pink card for the best effect. You can use them for:
- goodie bag labels
- party favour labels
- invitation labels
ladybug goodie box
This goodie “bag” was made from a round cardboard craft box (they come in a variety of sizes), and simply painted red. Then I used a black marker to draw a line down the middle and to add the head - and the spots, of course! I actually used a correction fluid pen for the whites of the eyes, before drawing in the pupil with the black marker pen. Coat with a sealer, if desired. You can write each child’s name on the base or side of the box, or tie a ribbon around the base with a small tag attached.
Alternative: Paint the boxes prior to the party, and then have the kids decorate them as an arrival activity (have a completed box as an example). Provide them with black marker pens, black dot stickers, googly eyes, glitter pens, black pipe cleaners and glue.
paper cup goodie bag
I found this cute and clever idea on Zakka Life, and just had to give it a go! These paper cup gift boxes make such wonderful party favour boxes (and would be great for small Easter treats!). So, next time you buy paper cups for your party, make sure you have a few extra for the goodie bags - or scrounge out your collection of left over paper cups! To make these, you will need:
- paper cups (any size)
- scissors
- sticky tape
- sticker or label or bow
Follow these instructions. If required, print the ladybug tag for the paper cup goodie bag.

picnic basket goodie bag
I made these picnic baskets as goodie bags for Charlize’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic. I loved how they turned out, but making them sure isn’t for the faint hearted! My intention was to buy some small baskets and to top them with a piece of checked fabric - but I could not find small, reasonably priced baskets anywhere! Once I had the idea in my head, I couldn’t give it up, so I stubbornly decided to make the baskets. They were time consuming to make, but they were cheap!!! I made them from weaving together “reeds” I had made from brown packing paper. To make a “reed” I cut a piece of brown paper, then starting with a long edge, tightly rolled the sheet into a tube. I flattened the tube and used a glue stick to secure the open edge. If weaving these together sounds a bit daunting, you could always make baskets from small boxes or cartons - or even plastic containers. Or maybe you’ll have better luck than me at locating some real baskets (you might have luck around Easter time!).
lego party bags
These are inexpensive and easy party bags to go with your Lego party. They are simply paper party bags with round foam circles glued on. I bought foam card and used a biscuit cutter to cut perfect circles before gluing them with craft glue. I think if you are lucky you can find round foam circle stickers ready to put straight on.
These could be made in any vibrant colour - blue, red, green or yellow. I added a bright ribbon and tag to match the theme.
