strawberry mice

strawberry-mice-copyI made a platter of strawberry mice for Charlize’s Mickey Mouse party, but they went so quickly that I didn’t have a chance to take a photo!  Luckily, I had placed one strawberry mouse on the cheese platter, so I do have a photo to share.

For each mouse, remove the hull of a strawberry and slightly trim the side of the strawberry so it sits flat.  Push two almond slivers into the top of the strawberry for ears.   For a tail, use a skewer to make a small hole in the back of the strawberry and push a piece of licorice lace into the hole.

Alternative:  You can add a face to each mouse by pressing a mini chocolate chip or currant into the tip of the strawberry for the nose, and by using an icing tube or currants for the eyes.  Also try cutting a thin strip from a fruit strap or dried paw paw for the tail.

mickey mouse decorations

mickey-mouse-decorations-party-ideasA great way of pulling your party theme together is to choose a colour scheme.  This Mickey Mouse party looked fantastic simply because it stuck to the colours of black, red and yellow - inspired by Mickey himself.  Your decorations don’t have to have characters on them.  In fact it is far more impressive (plus its cheaper and easier to find) to stick to your theme colours.  Use tablecloths, plastic plates, cups, knives and forks, balloons and streamers to add to the atmosphere.

cheese balls for a mouse party

cheese-balls-party-ideasAny food can be made to look fabulous with a little flair.  These cheese balls were served up to a Mickey Mouse party.  We’ve taken a nice vase and some black ribbon to jazz up what would otherwise be quite ordinary food.  The cheese balls matched the mouse theme and also the party colours of black, red and yellow.  Be creative with your serving ware at home.
