chocolate moustaches
These chocolate moustaches are a lot of fun for a pirate party, secret agent party or “My Little Man” party - and are even a good giggle at a sleepover. It is possible to purchase a chocolate moustache mould in some countries, but if you are like me and can’t get hold of one, don’t despair - they are easy to make without the mould.
How to make chocolate moustaches on sticks
You will need:
- chocolate buds or pieces
- zip-lock bag
- baking paper
- skewers (cut in half) or lollipop sticks
Print out the chocolate moustache template and place a sheet of baking paper over it (or laminate it so you can re-use it).
Put the chocolate in a zip lock bag and melt it in the microwave in 30 second intervals. Cut a small corner off the bag and pipe over the moustache outline with the chocolate, then fill it in with more chocolate. Place the skewer or lollipop stick in the middle of the moustache and pipe a little more chocolate over the stick. To make the appearance of whiskers, use a fork to “brush” the chocolate. Store them in an airtight container.
They also make great party favours - simply place in a cellophane bag and tie with a nice ribbon.

sack races
Sack races are an oldie but a goodie! And don’t despair if you don’t have a pile of hessian sacks lying around - you can use the eco fabric shopping bags as an alternative. The kids can climb into the bags and hold onto the handles, or you can cut the base off of a bag and sew it to the top of another. Much cheaper than making them from scratch.
Hold sack races as a stand alone game, or use the sacks to tie in with other games. For example, at the dinosaur party, I read a letter to the kids telling them we needed to go on a dinosaur hunt, but the only way to get there was with “dino” sacks. The kids were only too keen to climb into the sacks and jump their way to the imaginary destination! This is a good way to eliminate the winning/losing scenario that younger kids don’t always deal with too well!
Sacks can even become cocoons for a butterfly party or mermaid tails for a mermaid party!
secret agent observation skills challenge
This is an easy activity to organise for a Secret Agent party. All you need to do is print out our secret agent observation skills challenge sheet, and either:
- Let guests complete the sheet as an arrival activity
- Use it in a secret agent training activity - successful completion contributes to the issuing of their secret agent certification
- Use it in a game - place it face down in front of each guest. Give them a signal to turn it over and whoever finds all the items, and answers all the questions correctly, wins the game.
- Or pop it into their goodie bag.
You might also want to download the answer sheet before it self-destructs!
secret agent notepad covers
Add these to your goodie bags for your secret agent or spy party. Simply pick up some note pads from your local variety store (you can usually buy them in packs of 5 or so), print out our secret agent notepad covers printables and stick it to the front. This is a great party idea - shhh, don’t tell anyone…
secret agent bomb invitation
What a way to set the scene for your Secret Agent party! All you need for this invitation is a polystyrene ball, black paint, white pipe cleaner and some orange and yellow tissue paper. Print the details of the party onto a strip of paper and wrap around the end of the pipe cleaner. Paint the polystyrene ball black, and when dry, use a pencil to make a hole deep and wide enough to fit the message and pipecleaner. Trim the pipe cleaner to a suitable length, then attach a flame made from the tissue paper. Handle with care!
